Being a Reading Mentor is Good For You!
We all know that volunteering is good for the soul but did you know that it actually has a positive effect on your health? Research shows that 60% of volunteers feel less stressed after giving up their time to help others and this month’s edition of Top Sante magazine features one of our wonderful Reading Mentors talking about how volunteering forReading Matters has helped bring her back to good health.Kath Basnett who became a Reading Matters’ Mentor in 2007 and works with children at Kirkburton Middle School, was interviewed for an article entitled ‘The Best Things in Life Are Free’. She explains how being a Reading Mentor gave her back her confidence and positivity after being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing a harrowing course of treatment.
We are delighted to hear that Kath’s health has improved as a result of all her hard work helping children with their reading and self-esteem.
