We are absolutely delighted to announce the support of a wonderful new patron!

Liz Pichon, the multi award-winning children’s author and illustrator, best known for her series of Tom Gates novels, feels passionately about supporting our mission of helping all children to reach their potential by becoming confident and enthusiastic readers.

“I was delighted to be asked to become a patron and am looking forward to supporting Reading Matters in anyway I can. Being dyslexic myself and having a son who is dyslexic I can really understand what difference having that extra help and support with literacy can mean to a child. When I wrote and illustrated Tom Gates I just wanted it to be the kind of book I would have wanted to read as a kid; funny, attention-grabbing and have drawings in it! We have already had a chat about bringing some Tom Gates style doodles to a few things for Reading Matters too!”

Liz has also agreed to speak at our literacy conference on the 9th of July in Brighouse, which is really exciting and will undoubtedly ‘draw’ a crowd!

Rachel Kelly, Reading Matters CEO said, “We are delighted that Liz has agreed to become a patron. Liz understands perfectly the importance of children reading for pleasure in raising literacy skills and her wonderful books are a testament to this.”

Liz joins the author Michael Morpurgo and the poet Ian McMillan, who are already patrons of Reading Matters and we are really looking forward to working with this auspicious team to improve literacy attainment and change lives.
