I’m was not a giver for World Book Night this year; I was on paternity leave! But I thought I’d see how my copies of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time , which I gave away last year, were doing on the Book Crossing website. One or two nice follow ups. I particularly like this anonymous post:
Powerful representation of a child suffering from Asperger’s. In a sense, it’s a challenging read as it invites you to immerse yourself in a world that feels at the same time different and similar to our own. The narrator-child sees certain details that the reader might normally overlook and casually passes by others that the reader would normally look for. This is both fascinating and, at times, quite difficult for the reader. At some points, I have had problems with immersing myself in this new perspective, though I feel that this was more to do with myself than a flaw in the author’s technique.
Very insightful. Get out there and track down some of your own World Book Night books.
