Our Gala Dinner Line-up is Confirmed!

We are excited to be able to share all the details of our Fundraising Gala Dinner which takes place on Saturday the 14th of May at The Midland Hotel in Bradford.

This year’s speaker is Robbie Hunter Paul, CEO of Bradford Bulls and former international rugby player.  The compere for the evening will be Liz Green, presenter of the BBC Radio Leeds Breakfast Show.

Once again the event promises to be full of fun and laughter with the serious purpose of raising money to improve outcomes for young people.

Guests can expect a drinks reception from 7pm followed by a delicious three course dinner after which Robbie will speak and then host the auction. Back by popular demand is the fabulous Issimo with live music to make you want to dance the night away!

Tickets are £40 and full tables can be booked for 10 or 12 people. Please follow this link for more information.

Reading Matters to Bradford Bulls

We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Bradford Bulls Foundation to improve the reading skills of children in Bradford primary schools. The ‘Read with the Bulls’ programme which has been funded by Awards for All will place Reading Mentors into five schools around the city during the summer term of 2016. Reading Matters will provide expert Reading Mentor training for the volunteers who are a mixture of Bradford Bulls’ players and staff and also opticians from Boots in Bradford’s Broadway Centre. The schools taking part will each receive a £400 Reading Matters resource box to encourage reluctant readers.

Robbie Hunter Paul, CEO of Bradford Bulls will himself be volunteering as a Reading Mentor. He said, “I’d like to thank Reading Matters and the Bulls Foundation for allowing the club to be part of this project. A professional sporting club lives and breathes off it’s community and has a duty to support those in need. Personally I fell in love with reading through a similar activity at school in New Zealand and I have come to understand that reading is food for the brain. It is important that we understand the negative impact that our digital lifestyles are having on children’s development, and as parents and teachers find ways to enthuse in them a passion for reading and books.”

Huddersfield Literature Festival

Reading Matters is proud to support Huddersfield Literature Festival, now in it’s 10th year! This year’s programme includes events such as Levison Wood on the 9th of February at Hudderfield Town Hall and Ben Miller on the 10th of March at The University of Huddersfield.  A Stafflex Big Screen Family Day is also planned for the 27th of February at North Huddersfield Trust School. For the full list of events please follow this link.

Happy Reading!
