We are delighted to announce that Tom Palmer will be joining us for our ‘Closing the Literacy Gap’ conference on June the 29th at Bradford City football stadium. The popular locally-based children’s author returns to our annual conference, in conjunction with publisher Barrington Stoke and Madeleine Lindley bookshop, to deliver a workshop entitled ‘Removing Barriers to Reading’.

Tom’s workshop is part of the conference’s packed CPD programme which has been created to benefit literacy professionals from across primary and secondary education. Expert speakers and interactive workshops will provide lots of ideas about ways to help all pupils to achieve their potential and there will be interesting exhibitors and lots of networking opportunities as well.

Speaking at this year’s conference are Education Consultant and Writer Matt Bromley, award-winning author Andy Seed, Dr Paula Clarke of the University of Leeds, Deborah Bullivant  Director of Grimm & Co, Rachel Van Riel of Opening the Book and Reading Matters together with pupils and teachers from two Bradford schools.

In addition to Tom’s workshop looking at ways of encouraging children to read, there will be workshops on the themes of supporting EAL pupils, sensory processing, synthetic phonics and using comics in the curriculum.

There are still some opportunities for businesses and organisations to exhibit and sponsor elements of the conference, please contact us for more information.

Tickets for this inspiring event cost £100 and include a two course lunch and a goody bag. There will also be a raffle to win some reading resources for your school.

Don’t miss out! Book your place today.

Thanks to funding from The Brelms Trust we are able to offer primary schools with a Bradford postcode a fantastic literacy support package worth a total of £1400, for only £650!The offer, for a Reading Leaders course for 20 pupils, a box of fun and engaging reading resources worth £400 and also a place at our forthcoming ‘Closing the Literacy Gap’ conference, is a brilliant opportunity to invest in literacy provision at your school for a fraction of the usual cost. The Reading Leaders scheme, which trains older pupils to be peer mentors and support younger pupils with reading brings benefits for the children on both sides of the partnership, improving their literacy and communication skills, confidence and self-esteem.

Reading Leaders training takes place at school over the course of a normal school day. We would train a cohort of around 20 year 4 or 5 pupils with a free place for the member of staff acting as the school co-ordinator.

Training needs to take place this June, so don’t delay! Contact us today to find out more.
