Latest Ofsted statistics

School Inspections

Ofsted has released the latest official statistics for school inspections from April – June 2013.

Key figures include:

  • 78% of the inspected schools are currently judged to be good or outstanding
  • There has been a 9% point increase since August 2013 in the percentage of schools judged at their most recent inspection to be good or outstanding
  • The East of England has improved the least since August 2012 while the West Midlands and the North East have improved the most
  • During the last quarter the number of schools in a category of concern has decreased by 60
  • The number of monitoring inspections (927) has increased by 16% compared to the previous quarter (798). This is largely due to an increase in the number of requires improvement monitoring inspections.

We hear from the schools we work with that Ofsted inspectors are always impressed by the work of our volunteer Reading Mentors and mention the benefits this service brings in terms of community involvement. Our Reading Leaders programme also goes down well with benefits for school cohesion. These benefits are in addition to those of improvement in reading ability and pupil engagement.
